Mothers Union Devotion Easter Sunday

Fifteenth Station: The Resurrection

Bible reading – Matthew 28. 1-10

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” This is my message for you.’ So, they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.’

Meditation

We go on our way

and Jesus goes ahead of us.

We do not need to be afraid

for Jesus is risen.

God is love –

and love is more powerful

than fear or death or evil,

and we are greatly loved.

And we are grateful.

Thanks be to God for redeeming the world in love. AMEN

The message of the Angel to the two Marys is so important to us this Easter Sunday. Do not be afraid for Jesus is Risen. Risen and let loose in the world so that we can find him anywhere. Not just in our church buildings and in our sharing of bread and wine but everywhere. Much as we would like to be gathered together physically this morning be assured, we can be together in Spirit no matter where we are. With the rising of Jesus from the dead on that first Easter Morn we all became part of one family. One family linked eternally across space and time through the sacrificial love of God. Christ is alive, death is conquered, and we need not be afraid. And when we can finally be together in person, we can celebrate Easter as we bear witness to the Resurrection in our lives. Until then remember, the light shines in the darkness and cannot be extinguished because

He is Risen. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Thanks be to God for redeeming the world in love. Amen

Wish all my best wishes for a Happy Easter to you all.
